We are thrilled to announce that CTNS has signed a three-party Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with LG Energy Solution and Aptera Motors during CES 2025, held on January 8th in Las Vegas, USA!

Partnership Overview

Under this agreement, LG Energy Solution will supply 4.4GWh of 21700 cylindrical batteries (21mm diameter, 70mm height) to Aptera from 2025 to 2031.

CTNS will leverage these high-quality battery cells to establish a production line for Aptera’s electric vehicle (EV) battery module packs in the U.S. and commence mass production.

Aptera, which successfully completed its test drives last year, has already received over 50,000 pre-orders and is set to launch in the U.S. market this year. Mass production is scheduled to begin in 2026, with plans to supply approximately 20,000 vehicles annually through 2030.

This collaboration is expected to accelerate growth in the future mobility market and contribute to a more sustainable future by combining the core strengths of each company.

CTNS: Pioneering Battery Module Pack Production

In December last year, CTNS was selected for a strategic technology project led by Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups. This project involves collaboration with globally renowned research institutions, including MIT and KAIST, to advance battery module pack production technologies.

Based on this initiative, CTNS plans to install a battery module pack production line at Aptera’s U.S. factory that meets global standards and commence the mass production of high-quality module packs.

With experience in over 500 mobility-related projects, CTNS is committed to continuously optimizing performance, safety, and functionality to meet the specific needs of Aptera and other global EV customers.

LG Energy Solution: A Global Leader in Battery Innovation

As a key supplier of batteries to major automakers worldwide, LG Energy Solution has recently secured contracts with industry leaders such as Renault, Mercedes-Benz, and Ford, further solidifying its global presence.

Through this MOU, LG Energy Solution will provide high-performance 21700 cylindrical battery cells, supporting Aptera’s innovative solar EV development and market expansion.

Aptera: A Pioneer in Solar EV Technology

Aptera is revolutionizing the automotive industry by producing solar EVs that maximize driving range by integrating solar panels and advanced battery packs. With LG Energy Solution’s battery supply, Aptera is poised to expand its reach in the global market.

In late 2023, Aptera signed a KRW 13 billion contract with CTNS to develop and supply a battery module pack production line. This year, Aptera successfully completed development and prototype production, paving the way for its market launch.

Strategic Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

Geunhyuk Choi, Head of Marketing at LG Energy Solution, commented, “As a global leader in the battery industry, LG Energy Solution will continue to deliver differentiated value in next-generation mobility.”

Chris Anthony, CEO of Aptera, shared, “This agreement marks a critical milestone in bringing reliable and high-performing solar EVs to market. We’re delighted to partner with industry leaders like LG Energy Solution and CTNS to shape the future of sustainable mobility.”

Kijung Kwon, CEO of CTNS, added, “We are excited to expand our presence in the EV industry through this partnership with Aptera and LG Energy Solution. This collaboration strengthens Aptera’s production capabilities and positions CTNS as a leading advanced battery pack manufacturer in the U.S.”

CTNS has also established subsidiaries in the U.S. and Canada to further its collaboration with local enterprises. The company plans to build a local factory in North America, integrating R&D, production, marketing, certification, delivery, and technical services to solidify its position in the region. Full localization is set to be achieved this year.
